Shipyard Plantation is located near the south end of the island. It has entrances on Pope Ave and 278.  It is beautifully maintained, has lush tropical vegetation, natural wildlife galore, The 27-hole golf course wanders through tall pines, magnolias and moss-draped oaks. Adding to the beauty and character of the course are many lagoons and ponds, which must be negotiated if you are to play to your best.  There are 12-miles of white sand beach, a world-class tennis facility at Shipyard Racquet Club run by Dennis Van der Meer, and miles of paved bike and running paths. The Crowne Plaza Resort, a luxury international hotel, is housed in Shipyard and offers the convenience of on-site restaurants, a gift shop for daily newspapers and sundries, and a lounge with evening entertainment. Shipyard has two guard gates to limit access to the plantation.
